The Health and Safety Legislation in UK has been moving for a number of years towards less prescription and more requirement for each industrial organisation to tailor its safety management to the risks of its business. Risk assessment has been with us now for two decades, but it is still seen by many as an activity in isolation. This paper describes how risk assessment and risk ranking can be used to drive the development of a complete safety management system.
